    Default First ring

    Hiya
Four or five years ago, my partner gave me a ring with two dolphins side by side, chasing here tails. Sadly it got broken and lost a while back. I thought it might be fun to try to recreate it. Here is my result. It is my first attempt at carving(?) aluminium, so I would be interested to know what you think!
    Thanks

You've done a good job there Nicky. How easy is aluminium to carve?

That's great! I've never heard of anyone carving aluminium before but I'd be curious to know more.

    Great first effort!

It's good, but might give you black fingers. Why not do it again in silver? It is not that much harder to carve. For instance my carved silver pendant here:

    Hi all
    Thanks for the feed back.
The aluminium is easy to carve, most of the work was done with a saw and file. The bridge between the beaks and tails was carved with a chisel. (I ground and sharpened the end of one of my files) I have done a fair bit of wood carving, and it was nice not having to worry about grain direction! I would quite like to try it in silver, but I have a lot of aluminium, hence it's use. You are quite right, Denis, it did give me black fingers, but only for the first day!
    Thanks again for the interest.
