I suspect that no one in the world would want to buy any bezel cups after this thread, but them as likes 'em I made a thread here as part of my de-stash:

I've been stewing over ideas for my next jewellery project and having to order a few supplies. I came across this in my search and was wondering if anyone has experience using it? It's hard to tell looking at the picture, but would this work on smaller gemstones, say 4or 5 mm?

    Hi Sandra.

I have used gallery wire only on stones of 10mm plus but imagine it would work if it was trimmed back a little - it is 4.8mm wide so you won't see much stone and I guess, is designed to be chopped to suit the need of the setting task at hand. If you are looking at doing a fancy setting, you can always cut, saw or file into the bezel (just do it after it has been soldered into place if you are using thinner material)

    sorry, probably not much help.

Actually Wallace has said it all already, but if you start with the fact that small cabochons need less than 2mm of bezel height, there is not much to left play with when you cut down gallery strip that much.

Try making a plain bezel with copper first and you will see how limited the options are, but you can file or drill some U or V-shaped cuts in the edge and with care make tiny holes, preferably with a half mm round burr. Dennis.

It would def. be too big to use as is - I use it to hold in natural crystals because of it's flexibility

Thanks again for all the advice everyone! It helps to see your pictures Lydia, I can see what it looks like in much more detail and has given me ideas for a different project. I'm trying to come up with ideas for July's competition but nothing too exciting so far has come to mind.

this is with the tops cut off (slightly different gallery, a little more fancy), but still on a bigger stone. Just to give you an idea maybe?

Hi Sandra, here is the Link, I think it was that one. There are many to look at on that site. I got it before the two companies merged. I don't really use it much anymore and have a little bit about, I really should melt down.
