I got this one from Walsh:

They gave me a demo of it using my own castings - I was so impressed I bought it there and then! Very expensive, but am hoping it will be worth it in time saved - it's already enabled me to get a whole bunch of castings ready for hallmarking in a fraction of the time it would normally take me doing things piece by piece, which means I'm not paying a fortune to get each piece hallmarked one at a time. *attempts to justify ludicrously expensive tools to herself*

I do not think that word means what you think it means

Besides, there's a difference between expensive and costs a lot. Factor the time saved in with the reduced cost on hallmarking and it'll pay for itself quite quickly.

That's what I'm telling myself. And the boy. Repeatedly.

I'll try and remember to do some before and after pictures of stuff next time I use it.

I also have to say I'm well impressed with Walsh's customer service. I usually buy little fiddly things from them, but they were more than happy to spend time showing me their demo model, even though I'm not a big customer. And they gave me a discount as it was the display model I bought, despite the fact it was brand new out of the box a couple of days before and hadn't been touched.

It was bloody heavy though - I convinced myself I could get it home on the bus. And I did, but my arms hurt so much the next day I had trouble lifting a spoonful of cereal to my mouth!

Finally remembered to take some before and after shots of my magnetic polisher.

Before - rough castings with just the sprew sawed off/filed and any mould lines filed:

After half an hour - works best on curved surfaces and fiddly bits, flat surfaces come out more frosted. I've also chucked a couple of lots of brass castings in there, which came out great, and also seem to have softened the pin edges slightly, as subsequent silver batches have come out shinier.

It's a close call between this and my Benchmate as my favourite piece of kit now!
