    Hi Lydia, it was undeclared in the end and I got to keep it.

    There's been another one since but can't recall if I've posted it on here or not. I'll check.

    I've lots from over the years, but this is the most recent from last October.

    11th-12th century gold ladies ring. Found as pictured, and it's probably how it was originally lost. I took a big gamble repairing it as I couldn't be certain the stone was a ruby but it took the heat fine so it paid off fortunately!

    Didn't want to go OTT on the restoration and polishing so tried as best I could and I think it turned out well.

    Thanks Josef.

    Apart from imagining the story behind the ring and who owned it, from a jewellery making perspective it's clear to see that virtually nothing has changed in how such rings were constructed between then and now. I like that.

    Thanks Dennis and yes I am. The worrying part was not knowing if the stone could take the heat. I'd have rather left it broken than destroyed, but luckily it went well thanks to using heat insulating paste and careful soldering.
