    Smile Handprint Charms

    Hi All
I'm very new to making jewellery and so far loving it! I do have a question though, may seem silly! When I make handprint or footprint charms I dip them in liver of sulphur to blacken and then sand off. I've seen charms that hold the black and look great. If this is the liver of sulphur left on does it not come off eventually? Or is there another way to create the black effect? Thanks in advance!

May I add that the black effect is due to a very thin layer of a silver compoud. It does not fade, because it is similar to what you get when silver tarnishes naturally.

So you would only expect it to rub off the high areas which are subject to wear. In fact you might decide to do that with a silver polishing cloth to create an antique effect.

Becauseiver of sulphur is very smelly, many of us use Platinol as in the link given by Caroline
