    Default Hallmarking question ?

I'm after some advice regarding combined pieces and when they are required to be hallmarked.

When the weight of a pendant plus the weight of the wire used to wrap its beaded chain exceeds 7.78g does this need to be hallmarked even if the item is just wrapped rather than permanently soldered. I have been sending mine to be hallmarked but it occurred to me that I may not have to. The silver pendant or 'feature' is fixed to the chain with a wire wrap rather than through a bail or an open jump ring ... is this therefore considered a permanent attachment.

    Many thanks

I would say it would need hallmarking - I've always been told that unless the parts can be separated without tools (eg a pendant with a bail large enough to pass over the closing ring of a chain), it's considered a single piece.

Yes George...you're right.....this item would be considered "one piece" and so it's the total weight
