    Default A 60th Birthday Present

So it was the boy's mum's 60th birthday a couple of weeks ago and he and his brother and sisters all chipped in and asked me to make a necklace for her with all their birthstones in. They all had ideas about the design but managed to incorporate most of them!

So, each ring represents one of the children, mum's birthstone rivets them all together and the bit the chain goes through has a diamond to represent 60 years.

It's the first stone setting I've done since the course I did earlier in the year, so it's obvs not perfect, but it's a million times better than what I've ended up with previously!

It's just as well the colours of their birthstones went well together...

I really like that. A great idea and well executed. I bet she loves it.

That will be a family heirloom one day, and you will be taking in work for setting, I shouldn't be surprised. Regards, Dennis.

Thanks guys! It's the most stressful thing I've ever made - by the end of it I'd spend so long looking at it, I was like "is this even nice?" Happily she loved it.

The boy also said that he hadn't quite realised I was a proper jeweller - he said he sees me tinkering around in the workshop and he sees nice shiny things at the end of it, but this one I showed him every little component at each stage, so think he has a better understanding of how much work goes into stuff now!

I forgot to take work in progress pictures though, boooo.
