    Default Durston Disc Cutter

    Hi All,

Durston have a 10 punch disc cutter, the website shows a how to video and lots of spec, apart from the thickness of metal they suggest as a maximum for this piece. Does anyone have one, experienced one, know what thickness of silver I can use with it. I have emailed the company and called the number on the site, but this then tells me to call a mobi number, and as I'm already calling on an international mobi, I thought I would come you you lovely lot.

    Thanks

It's pretty much the same as the Swanstrom, I believe - though I don't know if it has the bevelled punches. My Swanstrom happily cuts up to 1.5mm aluminium, 1.3mm silver and copper and 1mm brass with just a brass hammer. You may be able to go a little thicker if using a press.

    Thanks George
Its the one with the cutting face at an angle so that rather than punching it "shears the disc" as it is described in the video. But if you suggest more than 1mm silver then I think its a goer.

Then it is the same as the Swanstrom. In which case, up to 1.3mm (annealed) shouldn't be any problem at all. Might take a couple of good whacks, and it's worth having a decent cutting surface underneath. The one extra thing I'd check is that they can supply spare punches in case any of them get damaged.
