Sorry to add to the questions James - do you drill for piercing with a motor or bow drill? Been using my bow drill again recently and finding it very relaxing.
I use my trusty old pendant drill for drilling holes pre piercing, it is one of the old types with a start button on the drill piece handle and I use a wax candle for drill lubrication.I also have one of the pendant drill with the slip joint on the flexshaft, complete with a quick release handle for holding burs and a hammer handpiece, this drill has the foot pedal speed regulator. I wouldn't like to drill 8000 holes with a bow drill:-)

Er, yes - fair point. 50-100 wouldn't be too bad, but 8k would probably have me reaching for the pendant motor too!

They really are beautiful, David. How do you prevent firescale all through this process? Dennis.

    Hi

I dont prevent the firestain as you cannot forge hot with any coating on the silver so the fire stain is removed at the end by filing and sand buffing

    Hi everyone,

Made this today and it's the first piece I have made in my wee spare-room workshop, feels good to slowly but surely get back into the swing of things, woo It's a cast silver twig which I had left over from my college days and a cabochon amethyst my friend brought me back from New zealand along with some other cobochons. Glad to see they're getting a bit of use now after lying in my tool box for the past 5 years.
