Hi Guys,
I would like to learn how to engrave silver but I'm not sure what tools I would need and how to go about it. Does anyone know of any good books or online tutorials?
Thanks,

Check out this book Rachael; http://www.cooksongold.com/Books/Eng...prcode-999-AMP
It tells you most of what you need to know and what tools to buy. Then it's practice, practice and more practice. I used sheets of copper as practice plates for engraving.
Good luck,
James
Thanks James, I'll give it a read I have plenty of copper sheet to practice on
wow, they are stunning James I don't think mine will be up to that standard, but I'm more interested in doing patterns /images rather than letter work too. I have an idea for an Egyptian style piece that I'd like to engrave an image of Isis on to so I need to get some practice in
Make sure you keep the gravers nice and sharp diamond sharpening stones are great for this try and get one with different grades on each side, also read up on gravers its important to make them the correct angle/correct heel for what you want to cut. I prefere brass to practice on I found copper a bit sticky but that may be just me. Also make sure your work is very well secured, gravers cut flesh much quicker than metal !
Is he now? Small world Engraving is a skill that can go well with knifemaking, depending upon his style of knives - anything with bolsters or decent guards can be embellished.
You'll find that graver sharpening is something that needs doing fairly often (as you go along), so it is really a skill you'll need to learn for yourself. They go blunter far faster than most using knives, but thankfully most knives aren't asked to cut metal all the time.
