Propane bottles are really safe. I think it's probably oxygen bottles that your hubbie is worried about. They are dangerous to keep indoors.

I agree propane is the same gas you use in a caravan so it should be safe enough,its a heavy gas so it will collect in the lowest place it can if it escapes worth knowing if you want a bbq in the cellar !!!
