    Default Dull Cabachon

I have just been presented with a Cabachon ring, underneath is full of gunk, makeup, hand cream, god knows what. Anyway the metal is fine but the top of stone has lot it's luster. Frankly it just needs a a polish. I am sure something on a mop would bring it back, but not into stone polishing I have no idea what. Any ideas

Hi Julian, when I have that trouble, I reach for polygold2000. http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&gs_nf...gold2000&aq=f&

They are ready impregnated felt wheels to mount on a screw mandrel for flex shaft. I bought a tube about ten years ago from Karl Fischer and still have more than half left as they seem to last for ever. Regards, Dennis.

I got mine from Fischer too - and they do last an age. I have also used http://www.suttontools.co.uk/polishi...aste-10gm.html with success, trial and error on some old not important stones. I actually managed to smooth a very rough jelly opal using the diamond polishing paste. I do use the alicantre mops with them too. Expensive beasties.

Many thanks for the tip, i guess using this on a moonstone should not be a problem.

No, Ive just done a moonstone, which I marked sightly unsetting it to re-size the ring. Some moonstones look a bit cracked if they dry out and wiping with a tiny amount of olive oil cures that too. Dennis.
