    Default Annodising Aluminium

    Hello,

Can you help me help a customer!

Someone has asked me what resists annodising aluminium and how this works / what to do?

If anybody knows the answer, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

This must be quite an unusual request Ann Marie, because normally you would anodise the whole thing. Also there are several processes some suitable for the home workshop and some only for commercial purposes.

In the absence of any other replies,I would suggest that they experiment with the resists available for etching, such as stop-out varnish, adhesive plastic tape, or a heavy coating of wax, melted on. It all depends on whether these will stay in place for long enough before coming adrift. Dennis.

A quick google showed me a 3M product, a tape specifically for stopping out when anodising. Another result was a special rubbery paste, but that only seemed to be available in the US.

it might have helped to give you the links :0)

It also occurred to me that they might be asking how to mask parts of already anodized aluminium for colouring. I leave that to other members who do it.
