If you continually wear thin wires though the hole in your ear gets smaller. Someone gave me a pair of very thin gold ones years ago, and I wore them a lot because I was very smitten with the person that gave them to me and I didnt want to hurt their feelings, when the relationship ended I took them out and couldnt get ones
with a bigger wire in for ages. By the way they are in my gold melting pot now!!!!!!!

    Default Srap ear wires.

Occasionally I am given broken gold ear hoops, also very thin, and they end up in my scrap until such time as I can fin a use for them. Here is one used as part of a fly, although you can't see it very well in this scanned in photo.

I had a friend with a false eye who would love to make the girls squeal after they asked him to keep an eye on their stuff.

That is an amazing ornament, Dennis!

and I now resolve to tumble more, Carole.

    Default Ear wire bending jig

I use a special ear wire bending jig to make shepherd hooks in all sorts of shapes - very useful bit of kit. You can make dangle looped or direct insertion into half drilled pearl type earring wires which are all identical, very quickly and easily

I tried making one out of nails in a board, but it hasn't really worked out very well. I think I need to improve it a bit

That sounds a good bit of kit, is it homemade or did you buy it. Although I dont have a problem making wires it would be quicker to use a jig.

Very simple to use - place wire, push - push- smooth...done!
We use both lengths of wire and fancy headpins

The earring maker tool's OK for one rather basic shape, but you can do a lot more with a wigjig for the same money if you don't like making your own jigs with some nails.

What's the difference between the end smoother and a cup burr in a pin vice?
