Hmmm yes perhaps I should have been more careful in my expression of that :0)

you don't cast yearnful eyes on the work of others and want to wear it?
I don't think that for me it's about possession, it's more that I seldom see anything I really like and when I do, I think I'd like to wear that!
and I have Mr Medusa's prints on my neck at all times, which are far more meaningful than a ring, so I don't get why he gets wierd about me not wearing it, but he does.
that's why I always wear my tiffany cuff. it's outragous status bling, but it was a graduation present from my parents.
I suppose for those of you who are very accomplished, if you see something you really like, you could always re-create something similar for yourself. But I think even if I were that good, I'd want the original.
and you can all blame Denis for this thread. It was inspired by seeing Anastasia Young's work.
Possibly you could recreate it, but you'd always know it was a copy. If the design's that interesting, get the original if possible.
I've been making some open copper spheres which are pretty much inspired by David Huang; now, I'm messing with trying to get the chasing to be something of my own, rather than ending up with something looking like a copy.
yeah, that's the thing, isn't it? That said, I saw a necklace recently which has a fabulous idea behind it and I kicked myself for not thinking of it first. I wouldn't want one of the originals in that instance, because I think I could do a much, much better one-off version (they are cast in multiples with two designs to chose from).
Though I shouldn't be too prissy about it. I manage to make a bit of dosh doing reproduction art nouveau stuff.
