    Default What Is A Druzy?

When I visit IJL at Earls Court in September, I usually make a beeline for Lorenz Edelstein, who specialise in carved and unusual stones. This year I arrived much too late and there was only some carved onyx that I fancied for earrings, shown in my thread http://www.cooksongold.com/forum/sho...superglue.html and an onyx druzy that I thought would do for a pendant.

I still needed to make a ring, but my London suppliers had nothing in black that would match. Marcia Lanyon did offer some agate druzy, which is a close cousin, but white, so I settled for that. As it seemed fragile for a ring, I have tried to protect it by sinking it in to the setting. To continue the theme I coloured the ring with Platinol, and as I was slightly uncertain of the size, the shank can be adjusted by opening or pinching the hairpin bends.

Druzy. A gemstone lined with a crust of projecting crystals. Other spellings: Druzi Drusi, Drusy. Dennis.

Hi Dennis, nice pieces. Did you solder the dome of the ring with the stone in place or is it held in at the back somehow? The pendant looks like the lid of a grand piano :0)

Dennis I'm drooling here, I love druzy's and your jewellery pieces are to die for, I'd wear both of them.

The square bezel was soldered into the dome and the stone, which has a black base, was fixed in with twelve hour Devcon, which is a waterproof epoxy. Yes the pendant is indeed part of a pixie grand. Regards, Dennis.
