Gosh Dennis, that photo of your vice set-up is very helpful to me. Like you, I've got limited space, and this sort of arrangement is just the sort of thing I could accommodate in my small work area.

I also use drill shanks for small amounts of round jump rings Dennis, luckily I have a vice fitted each side of my workbench for these jobs. When I use the drawplate method to guide the square wire I just clamp the drawplate to my bench pin. Another tip for when I am making oval chain links, I sometimes use large oval nails as spits for small oval sizes, although for larger ovals I have filed my own four inch lengths of brass rod to shape.Then to make removing the lengths of oval links from the oval spit easy, I will wrap some damp tissue paper around the nail or brass spit before winding the links, then when I have a length of twisted links on the spit, I will use my blow torch to anneal the lot thus burning the tissue paper and then the oval links slide off the oval spit easily.
