    Default My first attempt

...at soldering ear posts went like a dream, and I didn't melt anything! So chuffed, and ridiculously proud. They're nothing fancy, but I think they look rather nice.

Woohoo - well done you! I love it when things go well with the torch.

I love the texture on them too. What did you use to texture them with?

It looks like one of the texturing hammers from cookies, but i maybe wrong. I have it and it comes in handy for that little bit of difference.

Well done on the earrings great stuff!

    Well done.
My learning technique is to rush into something and melt stuff at the beginning until i don't.

It was indeed a texturing hammer from Cookies, then I washed the surface with liquid soap and some scotchbrite and burnished the high points. I'm going to make a pendant in the same way. I really enjoyed making them, so I think I might just use the other dimpled side of the hammer and make some more.

I'd have been devastated had I melted them! As I said they are nothing special, and not a comission for someone (although my mum wants some now!), and I know it wouldn't have taken long to redo them, but I hate failing!

Thanks to the others for saying you like em too. I know in comparison my stuff is crud, but I like it when you comment - unless it's to say something's rubbish!

They're a credit to you, and to think you had a torch phobia once. Kind regards, Dennis.

It kinda depends on the torch Dennis. I used the cooksons jewellers torch that my tutor has for those earposts, and with that I'll solder anything - lovely little torch. He also has one with a rather large canister of propane I think it is (could be butane, I can't remember, it's yellow anyway lol) and the flame is lovely and thin - I did some rather nice reticulation with it that I've yet to do anything with - but it scares the crap outta me! It's so heavy, and the noise! I'm better with the smaller, lighter torches, I can cope with them! Where I haven't got much strength or co ordination I feel a bit out of control with the big ones.
