    Default Le dejeuner sur l’herbe.

Has the Forum gone all French? No, don’t worry, it’s just the title of my class project this term.
To make an object which could become part of a chosen painting, or photograph. Rather similar to a previous project, but with a different teacher.
The picture I have chosen is ‘Le dejeuner sur l’herbe’, by Eduard Manet, 1862. A nude woman is seen picnicking with two fully clad men in an open space, possibly a public park. She looks straight at her audience instead of averting her eye. This was shocking to Parisians at the time and my response was to make a folding screen with a patinated silver frame. It is made enigmatic by being filled in with a copy of that part of the painting which it is supposed to hide.
The 2.0mm hinge knuckles aligned well between the chamfered uprights and I was pleased to find that by inserting a long lead from a clutch pencil for extra security and the use of a little Contex, a graphite antiflux, I was able to solder four at once. For hinge pins I used 1.0mm tubing, so as to avoid too much hammering. Wire used for the frames, 1.5mm square. Size of screen sections, 3.5x 2.3 mm.
Is this a Protest Against Prudery? Or a relic of the Subjugation of Women? Or a Feminist Icon? Dennis.

aw, Dennis, you never cease to amaze me - this is a superb application of the design brief. This also happens to be one of my favourite paintings. I lived for a year in Bougival where many of the impressionists lived and worked. Every turn of the Seine presents you with an impressionist painting 'in the flesh' so to speak. Wonderful.
