Hi all.
I also work with my jewellery at home. I searched the net for some time to find a good alternative...i've tried citric acid, alum and safety pickle, but what i found works best is, ordinary vinegar and iodized salt...I didn't belive it till i tried it i really really works,it just needs to be kept warm.. i keep it hot in a small chocolate fondue with a makeshift lid. You can't get any safer than that, and it works faster than all the above..almost as fast as the diluted sulfuric. When it turns blueish add more vinegar or change it..
I've used vinegar and salt in emergencies, but I really struggle with the smell. Just too fish and chippy!
i tired to buy Alum from my local chemist but they had stopped supplying it cos its used in bomb making!
