Default What's eating my saw blades?!

I have a rather odd problem, that's recently shown up, never experienced it before. The teeth on my saw blades are literally wearing off! Very quickly too. I am using a 2/0 bade on 1.2mm sterling sheet which I have done plenty of times before, but I have literally gone through 5 saw blades and managed to saw 1cm. I'm using a little beeswax to lubricate. Any ideas, it's drivng me batty!!??

Never had that problem either. Sounds like you got a bad batch of blades. Did you get them at Cooksons?

Yes, from Cooksons, and most of them from this batch have been fine, which I have had for a couple of years. But I also have a band new batch whcih are doing exactly the same thing, most puzzling

I really don't know... I know that's not what you wanted to hear!

I have two packs of the same saw blades and they are fine.

Are they actually wearing off or are they just getting clogged up? I know this is probably a very stupid question too but... did you take the plastic sheet off of each side as that could clog up teeth I should imagine. I know you're probably thinking 'how stupid does she think I am' but I have to ask.

    Hehe

No plastic and not clogged up - the teeth are literally wearing away!

    for 1.2mm I think a 2 rather than a 2/0 might be better?

    Are they vallorbe blades?

I'd double check they really aren't clogged - the mix of wax & filings can look deceptive. I checked one of mine with a loupe the other day because it stopped cutting; the tips of the teeth were only just protruding from the gunge, but to the naked eye it looked as if they were missing. Too much wax, and on the teeth too!

I've had this problem too! I was going to ask about it yesterday! I think its the wax! That's the only conclusion I can come to since it seems fine without the wax.

I personally never got on with waxing them, I never use the stuff. I've pierced 2mm thick silver quite easily without wax.
