Default Portable pickle for mini studio?

    Hello all,

I've been beavering away in evening classes and nearly ready to show photos of my first ring, if I can work out how to properly light it!

I have been amassing tools over Christmas and finally have a set of stuff. Right now, I will have to do my soldering in the kitchen. I got my kit from Cookson (bottle of flux, tub of pickling salts) and I'm wondering what to put the pickle solution in. I'm going to have to set up/take down everything fairly quickly, and as I have kids and it's a kitchen I want to minimise the risk of spillages and accidents. My class uses a crockpot but that seems a bit big.

Have you got an old baby bottle warmer? Pickle in a glass jar in a bottle warmer works really well if you don't want to use a slow cooker.

You can get really tiny slow cookers. I had one once from lakeland but I expect if you look around you could find a cheaper one.

I keep mine in an empty Nutella jar. It needs to have a plastic lid, not metal - hence the specific Nutella jar. I can warm it on top of my laundry radiator.

Ha! I was thinking that none of the jam jar would do on account of the lid.

    Thank you one and all.

    Hi There,

You can put the pickle in a glass jar with a lid and use it cold. It takes longer to clean the metal but the advantage is you don't have any fumes and hot liquid to worry about.

I keep mine in a plastic tub (an Innocent veg pot container to be precise) with a lid. I heat it in the microwave every couple of hours or so. Seems to work fine.

when working in doors i kept mine in a small plastic Jar with a screw on lid. When I wanted to use it I put it in the washing up bowl and filled the bowl with not water.

Pickle warmed up and worked fine, and any drips fell in to the water in the bowl and not on the worktop. Out of pickle stright in to the water, no mess and safe for the kids when you put it away.
