Question filling the back of a pewter sheet brooch

A query from another site I subscribe to, lady wants to know what she can use to fill the back of a brooch she's making from sheet pewter, presumably she's hammered a design into it. She mentions Barbola Paste which I've never heard of, can anyone suggest something, there's probably a recognised substance or technique I expect. Thanks on her behalf. Original query in the jewellery box forum on Misi.co.uk

I was taught to do this about 15-20 years ago - we used a tube of POLYFILLA and then after it had dried fully (preferably overnight if you have the patience), sanded filled with damp wet & dry paper.
