Default Is there something close in texture to practise with?

I have a little packet of PMC which I'd like use to make an imprint of my sons fingerprint. But am really nervous about using it in case I muck it up.

Is there something that's similar that I can practise with? I have things like playdoh and plasticine available, but am willing to buy something else. As long as it's not more expensive than PMC lol!

Fimo soft is closest in texture to pmc, but to get a good impression
you need to be able to keep the clay at good working texture.

It needs to be soft but not sticky. If it shows any signs of cracking then flatten it in your fingers smear a drop of water (literally a drop or two at most) accross the clay, fold the clay over tha water then
wrap it in clingfilm and knead it a little to work it in.

    How old is your son?
