    Default Missing: Inspiration

    Hello all.
Hope you've all had a fab Christmas and New Year. Hope the snow hasn't caused you too many problems.

I've not been on here for a few weeks. I'm feeling very uninspired at the moment. Huge case of creative block when it comes to jewellery making. I think I need a jewellery work room. A big problem I'm having is that the dining table needs to be used for other activities so my silver stuff can't stay out.
Over the last week I have begun to learn to crochet, as that can be done on the sofa, and have started a blog! (Damselfly Gemma) There's no jewellery on there at the moment (other than a small flickr slideshow) but hopefully when I refind my inspiration I'll put it on there. I need enough inspiration to spur me to get off the sofa and get out the silver tools.
You'd think that the tools and books I got for Christmas from my wonderful friends/family would have helped

I know the feeling. I've got all my equipment etc. in the garage so I'm quite lucky there, but, it's so cold and slippery that I don't feel like traipsing out there at present and I can't seem to work up the necessary enthusiasm at all. Perhaps once I'm back at work and more active generally it'll be better - I hope so!!

This lack of inspiration seems to be affecting a lot of us - I think for me it's 'cos I've been pretty much housebound 'cos of snow and boiler problems for the last week - can't seem to find any ideas that work. The last thing I tried turned out horrible! Ah well, roll on the new week.

Your crocheting is lovely - why don't you try doing some in fine wire - could look really effective

I was feeling like that - so joined the ring-a-day pool on Flickr
amazingly it worked and got my creative juices flowing.
A lot of folks were making wonderful rings from orange peel, bits of folded paper, pan scourers it's lots and lots of fun.
More importantly it's got me back at the bench

Thought it was just me - I think I have spent more time recently polishing a hammer (blame that on another thread on the forum) than polishing silver, although it is strangely satifying.

Has anyone got any tips for "jewellers' block" or getting the creative muse working again???

To cure the block do something out of your comfort zone ( jewellery making that is ) It is a great way to get it all flowing again. Failing that go on a course, it's great to meet like minded people in person and to bounce off one another and learn something new.

Gemma your not far from my studio come over for a day, that goes for anyone else on here, I have an open day next saturday (weather permitting) great bunch of people I normally get between 18 and 22 turn up and i think this one will surpass even that.

Default Look at others jewellery for inspiration

    Me too Gemma.

We all get the creative block from time to time, don't we! I look at jewellery websites and books for inspiration and see what others have made and how they made them. I also tidy my work area, have a sort out - that sort of thing. It usually works and the buzz soon returns. I'm sure you'll feel more like your normal self soon and you'll be off doing all sorts of stuff.

    xx
