    Default Free Kiln :o)

My friend told me her mum used to do a bit of enamelling and was bringing her old kit over to see if I wanted it. She said it was probably rubbish and in that case to chuck it. What I wasn't expecting was for her to tun up with a kiln!

Annoyingly, I bought a bead cube so I could do some enamelling a couple of months back, my big top loading kiln was less than suitable!

I'm hoping to use this one though with the thermocouple and controller from the bead cube, seems more suitable for enamelling with the window and no gap on the front. Failing that, I might chuck it on eBay!

A suitable thermocouple and decent temperature controller wouldn't cost that much from EBay... The last controller I bought cost me about £30.

My confusion is though, and I am sure I am being a bit dim, where do I put the thermocouple, my bead cube has a hole on the back for it, but with this one I have no idea!

Doing a bit of research, it's a Horst Uhlig U5, and according to the UK distributors you cant use a thermocouple with it as there is nowhere for the probe. The only thing you can get is a regulator that controls the amount of power sent to it for use over long periods of time so you don't let it over heat and damage the element.

...without modifying it. Shouldn't be too difficult to sort something if you're inclined to.

No, but seeing as I have one that's very similar with a controller, probably not worth it for me
