Default Christmas? Lights in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter.

The lights are up in the Quarter. They’ve gone for a jewellery theme again this year (same boring ones as last year). Clever little animated dots of light that seem to give no indication that they are meant to represent Christmas at all.

Is this a clever marketing ploy giving subliminal messages to visitors to push them to spend more or have they completely missed the point of Christmas?

What do you think? Do you prefer Christmas lights that look Christmassy and tacky or arty #arty designer type?

The tackier the better for me - Christmas and style is a contradiction of terms

Tack Christmas decorations stress me out, but then I think deep down, I am a little bit poncey. Well, maybe not that deep down even. We had Nicholas Cage turn on our Xmas lights last night but I don't know what they look like. I wanted to go down and then have a look at the Christmas Market which opened last night but had forgotten and promised a friend I would go and do some work on their PC, d'oh!

I like white lights on trees with white or blue leds outside...
My shop has a red and silver theme this year (though there is a Rope light reindeer on top of the cabinet )

    I find tacky quite depressing.
I love it when you drive past peoples' houses and you can see the tree and the decorations inside. I'm so nosey.
