They certainly are cool, but how did you make them?

Default No Secret - They're Bee Food!

In the brief hot spell we laughingly called Summer this year, I heard a report on the BBC that the bees were having trouble getting enough nectar.

The suggested remedy for this was to put sugar solution out for the bees to drink.

One large bag of Silver Spoon's finest later, I had a very saturated syrup fit for the bees, and I duly put egg cups full out in the garden, topping them up as they were drunk (from what I could see the wasps had more than the bees, but at least the bees got some - mission accomplished).

Both summer, and the bees departed, but I still had about half a glass full of the original sugar solution left which I completely forgot about, until I re-discovered it last Saturday - it had quietly sat on the windowsill growing the lovely crystals you can see in the picture.

I can't set them, or make a bracelet out of them, (that would be a bit sticky and prone to disappearing in the rain!), so I photographed them and put them back in the sugar solution to grow some more.

    Cheers m'dears!
