Sounds great, I wonder if the steam holes are deep enough to accommodate a post wire.

I use a very ancient solid iron plate on the hob. I hadn’t thought about a steam iron plate. If you think about it the holes have to go all the way through to allow the steam out so it’s perfect I would think

I’m surprised a household iron gets hot enough, I’ve been meaning to have another go with keum boo and using an iron sounds a great place to start … N

You're right Nick. When I started this, I was thinking about an old fashioned non steam iron with a thermostat. They can be quite cheap, and on mine set high, a bubble of water would dance and hiss when set on high, but no holes in the sole plate. Dennis.

I wouldn’t use a working iron, I put my ion plate on the hob.

Just had a look to see how much it would cost to have another go … all things must go up I suppose … Buying a whole sheet to play with seems a bit extravagant at the moment, maybe one day if I get a bit more serious with it all … N

I found a much cheaper and thicker leaf than Cookson. I’ll have a look and see where I got it

I misnamed it Bob. I’ve been using it for years from Cookson but recently found a cheaper and thicker source. The price could be anything from £40 to £80 at its most expensive over the years. It’s not something to be wasted anymore. Just looked and they want £105, that’s shocking!

I sometimes use a wee cooks torch for mine just to get awkward things to temp. Heating from below. It’s not in the books but then my keum boo is very random after finding that the gas hob tended to to blow my foil away!

I was actually taught to do it with a torch.
