Default Flux - which one for which metal?

    Hello

I am a total beginner and am trying to figure out materials and equipment. I was, therefore, hoping the more experienced of you out there would be so kind to tell me which types / brands of flux you are using for
    • silver
    • gold
    • white gold
    • and platinum

Is anyone working with Argentium? If so, please add that to the list.

As always, many thanks for your kind contributions in advance. I might not be able to thank everyone immediately, but I will as soon as I can.

    Regards

    Pider

    Borax

    Borax
    None

    Argentium gets borax too.

Yes, there's plenty of other fluxes, I've tried most of them and I go back to borax.

If you're a total beginner, please just stick with one metal and learn that first - silver, for example. Platinum is a whole other world to deal with.

For gold and silver the traditional flux is borax.
However many members use Auflux, which is a yellow liquid dispensed from a bottle. It is convenient, and tends to bubble less when heated.
There is a dedicated yellow liquid for Argentium, but I suspect it is the same stuff.
I have no experience of platinum. Dennis.

As above Borax, I use Argentium all them time, I do not like the dedicated Argentium flux.

Thank you to everyone. That's been very helpful.

Thank you also for the advice to stick to one metal. Yes, I am a total beginner, and I will heed that.
