Question Hello everyone, I'm new here advice on flaring tool please?

Hi All, I'm new on here but have been doing jewellery in spare time for years, and have engineering background.
I recently discovered and then bought the Durston Flaring tool, to make spinner rings.
I've tried it twice so far, with no success.
The last time being on 0.7mm silver 10mm wide, everything annealed, tool held in vice and being very gentle tightening with a spanner, but rather than a lovely even gentle flare it just seems to squash it and I end with up with a cotton reel kinda shape, more pronounced on one side than the other. I gave up and used a the ball pein of a hammer instead.
Has anyone else had problems using one of these, I don't see what else I could do to prevent this?
    Appreciate any advice please.
    Cheers

Yes, not so long ago, another experienced member had a problem with using this tool:

If you can't master it, I would return it for refund. Dennis.

Anneal the ring well before flaring the ends. I use a doming punch, one end at a time. Count the number of hits. Turn over and repeat the same number of taps. If you need to repeat more than 3 times I always anneal again. Fingers crossed never had a split…..make sure your soldering is good and right up to the edges. Thickness of the metal is also a factor.
