Default Need advice on restoring a piece of metal from an old handbag.

    Hello all.

I have a piece of metal from an old handbag that I want to restore. I think it`s steel.

The metal was originally gold coloured but the gold paint has since been rubbed off. I want to restore the gold colour.

How would I go about doing this? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Whatever you try, will wear off again with use, so If you just want a quick fix select a lacquer from here. If the metal won't come off the handbag, isolate it with plenty of painters masking tape, and choose metallic paint, following the makers instructions.
I would try it on some scrap metal first.

However if you want a more professional job, you must separate the metal part, and send it away for electro plating.

    Thanks for the reply Dennis.

I`m going to try this route so should I also consider primers and undercoats? How about clear varnish?

Dear Bock, This is a jewellery making forum, so I have only a passing acquaintance with lacquers.
Your best option, is to select a product from the link I posted, and then if the instructions are not sufficient, phone the suppliers. Dennis
