No personal experience Theresa, but I have read around it from time to time.
It seems that the old method of scratching on a stone and testing the transferred metal is out of favour, because of the noxious acids required.
I noted that Cookson is selling, so called gold testing kits on Amazon, but they contain only the stone and not the acids.

In vogue are the electronic testing kits, which need only a drop of milder electrolyte, or even no liquid at all.

In both cases you are warned that the test will not detect whether the item is plated. for that you need more sophisticated instruments costing thousands, or scratch through an inconspicuous place and hope to detect a different metal. Dennis

Be aware that the acids have limited shelf lives.
