Engraving advice for beginner

Hi,
Although I've been making jewellery for a while, engraving is new to me.
If I wanted to make a copy of this memento mori ring (see attached photo) what would be a suitable technique and tools to engrave the metal before the enamelling.
I know this may be pretty ambitious for a beginner, but any advice would be much appreciated.

I would start with a good book or course Steve lindsay and Sam Alfano does some good dvds if dvds are still even a thing lol cookson sell them I think.I would start with a square graver you will need to watch how to sharpen it this is the critical bit. You will need access to a bench grinder then a couple of grades diamond sharpening stones. Also a handle these are usually wood and burnt on. There are different lengths so you can find one that fits your hand. Also a way of holding the work, ideally you can turn. Ball vices are great but expensive.
