    Default DF, HB gold wire

    Evening,
What do DF and HB letters mean when describing yellow gold wire please?

    Thank you.

I have no idea and apparently on a search on here in 2014 we didn’t know either!

It specifies the alloy used. There used to be a knowledgebase that had all sorts of useful datasheets, but it seems to be gone now.

    Try this:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=cook...%2Ffiles+alloy

    9ct Yellow CY
    9ct Yellow DF
    9ct White SPW
    9ct Red MR

    14ct Yellow AY
    14ct White WM
    14ct White AW

    18ct Yellow HB
    18ct Yellow KK
    18ct Yellow HCB
    18ct White SW
    18ct White WNC
    18ct Red RP

The naming isn't always coherent, but the whites have a W and the reds have an R...

Thank you very much. It would be useful to know what properties all these alloys have so that a good choice can be made when purchasing. I might call Cooksons. Thank you for explaining.
