    Default Hallmarking necklaces

Does the weight of a pendant include the chain?
Wondering if I can get away with not hallmarking a recent make. Say you have a chain with 2 pendants, is each treated as a separate item? Does it make a difference whether the pendants are removable from the chain or not?

If they are removable without the use of pliers then they are treated as separate pieces. I know a few people who only make necklaces made up of multiple component parts like this

    Hi Sheena,
Caroline is right and I had a long discussion with the Assay Office about this a while ago. If the Necklace or the pendant are under weight and the pendant is detachable from the chain itself, then it doesn't need to be hallmarked. Well worth doing to cut the costs of things, as its still legal.
