Default Universal bench top work holder

I have just bought one of these to obviously hold pieces securely rather than gripping with ďarthriticĒ fingers.
Must say it really does the job. I mounted it onto a 15x10cm piece of stout ply so I can fix it with a G clamp wherever I want to. One mystery however which I havenít asked cooksons about as yetÖ..they proudly supply a brass ring just like a copper tube jointing olive in a compression fitting. As there are no instructions I just canít work out whatís this for! Any ideas? Oh yes, they also state they donít supply the 3 screws for mounting the unit onto your worktop etcÖ..and then they include them!

No! I donít think so as the pins were sealed in a plastic container.

The brass ring is a practice piece.

Well, well! Thanks for solving the mystery but feel it is rather unneeded as it isnít exactly rocket science as to how it works! The tool certainly works well holding anything, even of an irregular shape snuggly and at any angle. I have mounted mine on a rectangle of ply and can fix it securely anywhere I want. I think this is going to be a really useful addition to the tool box.

I've got one of the hand-held versions, which came with a mere 4 pins - and arrived with the pins retained as the picture on the Cooksons site shows.
Obviously it's got more pins now; I filed flats on some of them for better retaining in some cases.
