(for those who don get it, see "The Fast Show")

Wanted to see if I could fabricate neat hinges, so started to make a simple cuff bracelet, just rectangles of silver sheet with tubing for the hinge.
Picture shows a section hinged up, and next peice being prepared.

To try and get a fairly neat finish the clasp will be a simple pin through the last hinge secured with a safety chain and some sort of clip, yet to be decided.
Next idea after this one is to "design" it more, maybe replace every other rectangle with maille.

clicky on the thumbnail image should enlarge it (fingers crossed)

I was just reading about hinges in the Codina book that I got from the library! And there you go and give us a practical demo. Looking forward to seeing the finished article.

That's it now. I'm lost for the morning.......the sound of a gently strumming spanish guitar trying to lure me to the bookshelf........

Don't go any further! It will come under the realms of too much information

But I do know what you mean

Thanks for your comments, didn't realise an experiment would go down so well.

(geti, don't do a lot of commsions but what size do you need them...won't be cheap for a shed, but could sort a forum discount i am sure........)

    The rectangles are 20mm x 30mm x 1 mm
Each hinge is made from 3 x 10mm pieces of silver tube with internal dia. of 1mm so hinge wire inside is 0.8mm

2 of the tube 10mm pieces soldered to one side of a rectangle and 3rd piece to the next rectangle to interlock as a hinge, 0.8mm wire pushed through all 3 peices and cut/filed to be flush at ends and then soldered at one tube end to retain, (that has been the hardest part, as there is quite a lot of metal around the hinge it draws so much heat away that my little hand held struggles to heat the hinge end suffieciently, may have to dig the oxy torch out from the back of the cupboard!)
Rather than leave each panel flat I intend to add a gentle curve to make it sit better on the wrist, does look a bit like a mirrorball on the OH's wrist though!)

    Thanks Lisa
as of yet the clasp has not been finalised, the intention is a simple repeat of the hinge, ie. a hinge pin that is removable and can be secured when in postion. attached to a safety chain.

i will post a picture when the peice is complete.
    cheers
