I am hoping to make something like in the picture for a friend but in sterling ( silver jubilee present). Would like to add more details , personalization etc by hand tooling. If the sheet is affixed to a solid surface, that should make it durable right? I fill my copper embossing with epoxy once finished that prevents it from being pressed down when touched, can that work for sterling as well?Click image for larger version.

Yes, don't be nervous about silver. It works in a very similar way to copper, but ends up a bit harder. Dennis.

I would also consider working with fine silver - it's softer, and more tarnish resistant. Otherwise, look at Argentium as an option - slightly more expensive, but no tarnish and shines up beautifully.
