    Default Cable wire

    HI

I have used 0.8mm cable wire to make a necklace and bracelet with lots of tiny silver beads. the cable wire is flexible enough but I began to worry that the cable wire could harden begin to split over time. do you think this is something that I should be worried about? I like the cable wire because the beads move smoothly on it unlike if they were on-chain but I was wondering if I should think of using something else.

    Thanks, Daniel

Sadly my adventures with silver cables ended with failure, because careless handling quickly resulted in permanent kinks, which make the work unsightly. The wires were also prone to rapid tarnishing, which made them look sad.

As a result I now use Nylon coated steel cable, such as made by Beadalon: https://www.cooksongold.com/category...query=beadalon in natural, or in colour' or these, below:

I only use the thicker 1.5 mm cables which are more robust for the weight of pendant I make. I’ve never soldered onto them though, I would have thought that soldering would make them less flexible and brittle

Thanks, i have made one necklace with it so far and the fluid movement is really nice. my only worry was if it gets brittle over time. ill have to alow it the test of time i think. i really like that i can solder it onto the findings.
