Default Cabochon Pendant Setting, How to Craft an Open Back

Again, thank you for the help on our soldering problems

Now we were after some advise on crafting settings for cabochons please.
We were hoping to set a bezel strip onto a silver backing, an "O" shape, i.e with a hole in the centre as below pic indicates -

I cannot see how this is made without a silver sheet, then stamping or drilling a hole through the centre.
I see cooksongold have rectangular wire, however I cant see how we would form that into a neat looking backing.

Am I right in thinking the silver sheet method is the only way forward ? Its a lot of waste material if so.

    So much to learn

Its probs cast. But you could make it by cutting a hole in silver sheet.

That one looks very heavy so as Josef said probably cast. You would make your bezel and then solder it to sheet. File back the edges flush with the setting, solder on a bail and then cut out the back to desired shape having drilled ou5 a pilot hole to allow you to get the saw blade through

Could also be done with rectangular strip and bent to shape, it would be more work and take a longer time, if it is more than a one off most likely not feasible
