    So am I correct in that AnchorCert Group, AKA Birmingham Assay Office is actually a private company and not a government organisation

    They all are. But are licensed to carry out assays etc.

    I thought they were owned by the government, don't know why, I am going to have them produce a makers mark stamp for me, I can't get the quality and size I want in AUS

    Because they do assay work, and the authority and standards for that are a legal requirement(Hallmarking Acts)

    They all have quite different pricing structures too Bob but the legislation they work too is the same
