    A wobbly stone can be made to appear firm by closing the rim of the bezel. But with regular impact as you get with rings for instance, it will spread again so that the wobble returns. Dennis.

    Thanks, misspond, enigma and Dennis, i'm finding everyone's imput really interesting and useful. I would like to practice as much as possible, i think you then get a feel for the fit and how high the bezel should be, something you can only learn yourself. I've currently got 3 earring pairs on the go using low price cabs from manchester minerals (2studs, 2 dangles, 2 backless) so that's a start
