Well, it doesn't actually measure weight for starters. It'll measure width(s)of the girdle & depth, which translates to an approximate weight for an ideal cut of that shape using look-up tables.

Haven't located the tables yet, but I did find an online calculator for various shapes.

Thanks, Peter for your help its gratefully received so you take 3 measurements I take is the Length & width and the depth then put them into the Cart Calculator and gives the Cart weight.

I have a Diamond stud & Baguette earrings so I measure Length & width and the depth and there's 20 Baguette & 20 Diamond in each earring so do you multiply the Baguette & Diamond cart weight by 40 to get the exact cart weight of the earrings?

    or is this completely wrong

    Thanks in advance

Not sure I'm completely following - but if you've got 20 stones the same than yes, I'd multiply the weight of 1 by 20 to give an approximate total carat weight. Noting that it is just an approximation. So 20 * the baguette weight + 20 * the round weight (if I've understood correctly).

    Pictures might help?

Go to ADVANCED and use the paper clip as in emails. Then you can pre-view your post.

It's worked. Can't tell much at that resolution, admittedly - are there really 20 baguettes per earring? Looks like probably 20 rounds, admittedly.
