Question Where can i buy ETCHING supplies......?

Hi everyone this is my first post... i've just started teaching a class of 18 people through a college program, but i have to supply pretty much all we need to sell onto the student and one student asked about etching.

I cant find anywhere which would sell it. could anyone please recommend a supplier where i can buy the acid solution for etching onto silver?
    would be much appreciated

You could try enamel supply companies - I got mine from Vitrum Signum

Hi, I got nitric acid solution from Walsh's in Hatton garden. This was 59% NO3 so very dangerous stuff and would either be collection or specialist courier. I also got stop out solution from them I think. A rather nervous ride home on the train that day as I had a tub of pickle as well. As a scientist can I please urge you to make sure you have excellent PPE for teaching (don't mean to patronise) including appropriate ventilation as NO3 fumes as soon as you start pouring. Good luck.

Alternatively, as I've mentioned before, MegaUK do ferric nitrate now.

Hi and welcome. I think I got mine from Walsh's too. I've had it for years. I think I'd also say it's not something that should be carted around too much and may not be suitable for students.

    Smile Thanks for the help......

Thanks everyone for the replies and the hello's ill have look at all the places mentioned.... Caroleallen - yes the movement of the chemicals is not ideal - and as we only meet 2 hours a week it wont be possible. i did say to them i would look into it. is good to know even if i cant instruct them in class i can tell them about it and probably purchase it for my own use and pass on the teaching on line.

    Thanks again all
