Hi all. I've been playing again.
A friend asked me to make replacement wedding rings and they decided they'd like etched patterns on their rings. The last bit of etching I did wasn't as crisp as I'd have liked so I threw a few more ferric nitrate crystals into the solution and decided to do a test run on something other than their rings.
I've been playing with melting bits of scrap, some of it directly on my solder block, and other pieces in channels I carved in some lumpwood charcoal (not the kind impregnated with firelighter) and decided to etch some of the thicker pieces. I used my favourite resist, nail varnish and designs from nail art plates.
As suspected the etching solution was a bit lazy but I quite like the effect on these pieces that I've turned into pendants.
A couple of the pieces that were melted scrap on my soldering board were much more delicate, and I love how the jump rings I added to one of them didn't quite melt and look like scroll-work.
