    Default Ring size mandrel markings...

    Hello

I have recently bought a ring size mandrel (NOT from Cookson!) and the markings seem odd to me as they are unequally spaced (picture attached). Please could anyone advise is this is correct or not?

    Thank you

While the difference between sizes is not completely linear - http://www.ringsizes.co/ - the gap between K & L does look excessive. I'd guess that L upwards has been offset by 1 size.
Only way to be sure is get some calipers on it and measure it...

FWIW, I have a set as a reference set and I always measure off that.

I agree looks a bit wonky, if you have a finger gauge you know is correct then you coukd measure with that ?

All ring sticks are arbitrary in a sense. They only have an accurate function if used in conjunction with a set of ring sizers with the same calibrations, or by the same maker

As josef says, you can match yours against a different set of ring sizers, but this adds an extra layer of complexity.

The default system in UK is the Wheatsheaf which is recognised and can be replicated everywhere. Dennis.
