    Default Historical rings

    Hello all,

(I appologise links aren't links, as stated below this is my first post and thus i cannot post links)
This is my first post, i've been making rings for historical reenactment for about 2 months now. I've been looking at historical examples of rings and their settings. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out by suggesting how i may get bezels such as those seen in the links below. Currently the bezel rings i've made have been a simple shank with a bezel cup, or a stirrup ring with a drilled in bezel (such as https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/942936)

    https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/200231
    https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/431538

Do you think these were done with lost wax casting? If so would anyone be able to direct me to a ring carving tutorial where the stone is pre set in the ring?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

If you look at josef's reply to the question: 'Ideas on how to cast this shape' that could be you answer too.

However I suspect that if they are only for re-enactment, you need a much less expensive option, by searching for plated ring blanks and glass or resin self adhesive simulated gemstones, maybe on etsy, or ebay. Dennis.

Well then the rings I have seen on line 2 of your addresses are very easy to make just from wire and sheet. If you joined a part time or evening jewellery making class, you could replicate them after just one term. It would be a lifetime hobby. Dennis.
