I've been reading the thread about the Platinol issue and just wondered, if you just want to darken silver to achieve an antiqued look or to emphasise a pattern is there any reason you couldn't just use the torch to blacken it and polish back the high areas rather than using chemicals? Is it because using a chemical solution is longer lasting? I've not really experimented with oxidising (apart from a go at the egg method) but would rather not use chemicals if possible.
