    Default Dust/fume mask/respirator.

As I am doing more and more polishing, cutting, soldering, I feel I should get some protection from dust and fumes. I can’t fit an extractor unfortunately due to the architecture of the house and the room I use as my workshop. What masks etc do you recommend? I have one I used when cutting brick and stone but it is far too bulky and heavy.

Polishing and cutting will produce dust and for a relatively small volume of work, the masks or a transparent shield used for Covid protection should be sufficient.
A hood, even improvised, will also help

Soldering produces toxic fumes and for small volume, good ventilation is the best solution.
Paradoxically a cold draft will cool the workspace, making it more difficult to solder a good conductor such as silver, with a small torch.
People who work in sheds in cold weather have mentioned this too. Dennis.

Thanks. It’s nearly always with my setup a problem with space! However that looks intersting.

Those bench top filters are quite good, you can make your own with an old computer power supply fan and just buy the filter and fabricate a box and stand out of just about anything.

Found this on eBay....in for a penny, in for a pound or to be precise £34.75. Hope this does the job. Advantage it isn’t too big and can be packed away when not in use.....En Verra...Ruedeleglise.
